Bullying within the Health sector is quickly becoming a major public health issue in Australia.
The regulatory system that doctors find themselves subject to, is complex, unfair, biased and expensive. There are several administrative bodies and tribunals that can investigate and sanction a doctor for conduct judged to be wanting. There are major issues relating to Natural Justice and the fairness of the entire medical regulatory system that has been called into question at the highest levels already and certainly at the level of Senate Inquiry. Many doctors have killed themselves due to this very unfair and dangerous system. Many doctors have found that their indemnity insurers have been hugely unhelpful and in some instances, collusive with the unfair regulatory bodies. The need for someone to represent the interests of a medical practitioner over and above financial decisions made by insurers, is much needed.
